Convert a PDF to Excel
PDF to Excel on ilovspdfs reads a PDF's text layer into a spreadsheet, one sheet per page, with rows and columns inferred from where the text sits. It works best on simple tables; merged cells and tables drawn as images are not detected. Part of Pro: sent over HTTPS, processed in memory, never stored.

About this tool
A PDF has no idea it contains a table; it only knows where each piece of text was placed. This tool reads those positions, groups text that shares a baseline into rows and text that lines up vertically into columns, and writes the result as a workbook with one sheet per page. Numbers are stored as numbers so they add up. It is at its best on invoices, statements and reports with clean columns, and at its worst on dense multi-column text, where the columns it finds are the columns of the layout rather than of a table.

Questions
- Is my file uploaded for this tool?
- Yes. Unlike the tools marked Private, this one sends your file to an ilovspdfs server over HTTPS, processes it in memory, and streams the result straight back as the response. Nothing is written to disk, nothing is logged about the contents, and nothing remains once the response has been sent.
- Why are my columns wrong?
- Columns are inferred from where text starts on the page. A table whose cells wrap over several lines, or a page with text beside the table, can confuse that. Try a page at a time, or tidy the result in your spreadsheet program.
- My PDF is a scan. Will this work?
- Not directly: a scan has no text layer to read. Run OCR PDF on it first, then convert the result.
- Why does this tool need a Pro subscription?
- Because it runs on hardware we pay for. Everything that runs in your own browser stays free with no account, at any file size. The cloud tools are the few jobs a browser tab genuinely cannot do, and Pro is what pays for the machines that do them.
